Starbucks Coconut Milk Isn’t REAL?!

I was VERY suspicious to read that Starbucks is now carrying a coconut milk in order to appease the non-dairy crowd.

Although I am not a fan of Starbucks and don’t drink their beverages, this news piqued my curiosity.

I worked for Starbucks back in the early 2000’s and found that most of the items sold there are truly some of the most sugary, fattening, chemical laden crap I’ve ever seen.

Everything from the “Fresh-Baked” scones and muffins to the syrups and coffees they serve are riddled with chemicals you DON’T want to consume if you want to lose weight… or even be remotely healthy.

And most of the drinks pack in as many calories as a meal, to boot.

But I don’t have a problem with coconut milk – I’d love to see Starbucks offer more non-dairy options.

Rather – I have a problem with THIS coconut milk.

It’s essentially sugar water with emulsifiers and some remnant of real coconut (just so they can say it’s made with real coconut, no doubt.)

But what is REAL coconut milk, anyway?

Coconut Milk and Water.  Period.

What’s in the new Starbucks Coconut Milk?

The full ingredients are:

  • Water
  • Coconut Cream
  • Cane Sugar
  • Tricalcium Phosphate
  • Coconut Water Concentrate
  • Natural Flavors (always a red flag!)
  • Sea Salt
  • Carrageenan
  • Gellan Gum
  • Corn Dextrin
  • Xantham Gum
  • Guar Gum
  • Vitamin A Palmitate
  • Vitamin D2

There are a few ingredients that caused me to raise an eyebrow; corn being just one of them.

I also don’t think coconut milk needed all that SUGAR to taste great.  (It’s like they’re trying to hide the coconut flavor altogether!)

But another is downright scary, and that’s “Carrageenan”.

Dr. Joanne Tobacman from the University of Illinois in Chicago states, “Carrageenan predictably causes inflammation, which can lead to ulcerations and bleeding.”

Umm… eew?

I’m going to stay away from Starbuck’s new coconut milk for the time being.

If you do find yourself in a Starbucks, my suggestion is to stay away from the fattening and chemical-laden drinks and bring SlimTea with you in your purse or briefcase.

SlimTea’s ingredients include… well… 100% PURE OOLONG TEA.

No fillers, no flavoring, no pesticides, no chemicals, no coloring, and NO sugar!

It’s great for weight loss and tastes phenomenal, too!

For the first time ever, SlimTea has introduced a new Limited Edition Kenyan Oolong that has the highest weight loss-inducing antioxidants we’ve EVER seen.

It’s only available for a limited time so get yours NOW before it sells out! >>>>>>>
