Will You Eat This Silent Killer Today?

Will You Eat This Silent Killer Today?

Prevention Magazine calls it, “The Natural Ingredient You Should BAN From Your Diet.”

It’s a scary additive that is hidden in none other than your ORGANIC foods.

That’s right – even the most healthy eaters are probably eating it, whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, or even 100% organic.

The additive is called, “Carrageenan”.

What is Carrageenan?

Carrageenan is a type of additive that’s used in a ton of different foods.

It actually comes out of red seaweed.

Weird, huh?

Often it’s used for the purpose of thickening certain foods and drinks.

While there are other types of additives coming from seaweed, carrageenan has quickly risen to the top.

And it’s in foods and beverages that we eat every day…

The Dangers of Carrageenan Consumption

There are major risks involved with consuming foods and/or drinks that contain carrageenan.

Dr. Joanne Tobacman says, “Carrageenan predictably causes inflammation, which can lead to ulcerations and bleeding.”

Inflammation can creep up on you but cause major problems, especially the promotion of diseases and the crippling of, among other things, digestion and detoxification.

The majority of the carrageenan debate focuses around whether it should be considered as a type of carcinogen.

It may also lead to gut irritation, or even cancers.

Organizations like the Cornucopia Institute are petitioning the FDA to ban this additive, which it says has, “no nutritional value”.

What Foods Contain Carrageenan?

The worst part about all this is that carrageenan is usually found in healthier foods.

It’s found in many different dairy products, prepared foods, such as canned soups, nutritional drinks, such as Ensure, and much more.

It’s really something that many of us consume at least semi-regularly, all without knowing it.

However, it’s especially common in foods and drinks that are organic.

Here’s a detailed list of the organic dairy foods and drinks that may contain carrageenan.

  • Buttermilk
  • Chocolate Milk
  • Cottage Cheese
  • Cream
  • Eggnog
  • Ice Cream

How to Know What to Avoid Consuming

It’s not easy to know what you shouldn’t be eating or drinking when only factoring carrageenan content.

It is something that can vary based on the particular brand name, not the particular food.

However, you can find a carrageenan-free shopping guide that can help you with narrowing down organic foods and drinks by brand name, based on whether they include carrageenan.
