On Tuesday U.S. News and World Report ranked the top 25 best and worst diets…
… And just named the “DASH” Diet the best diet… for the 5th straight year.
I hadn’t heard of it, either. 😉
The acronym DASH stands for “Dietary Approaches To Stop Hypertension”.
The DASH diet recommends consumption of vegetables, fruits, lean protein, whole grains, and low-fat dairy.
It also recommends avoiding sugars, red meat, and salt.
How The “DASH” Diet Works…
Why didn’t the “Paleo” or “Weight Watchers” Diet make the cut?
Well, the evaluation of these diets ranked how easy, nutritious, safe, and effective against diabetes and heart disease the diet was.
The Paleo Diet, in fact, ranked LOWEST of the diets due to the difficulty of finding appropriate “Paleo Friendly” foods in the modern era!
According to Time Magazine:
“It matters, of course, how many total calories you take in each day, but the authors say the age-old advice simply to ‘eat less and exercise more’ may be naïve. To control weight over the long term — adults gain about a pound a year on average — the study suggests that people benefit more by focusing on eating right, rather than less.”
But what really makes diets like the “DASH” diet successful for the long term?

Most diets are temporary – and people almost always gain the weight back the moment they get off their restrictive diet.
Like any healthy weight loss plan, the DASH diet goes back to fruits and vegetables; avoiding processed foods, sugars, and excess salt.
But it restricts red meat and high-fat dairy.
